My name is Rhianna and I'm your President. On behalf of the Committee & membership we'd like to extend a warm welcome! :-) We are a very active society full of welcoming members, and we would be happy to have you join our jolly society. We have all experienced those first frightening steps into your first ever LGBT meeting, therefore we know how scary it is and want to make sure you feel as welcomed as possible. Going to your first meeting of any society, especially if you feel that you're 'coming out' just by walking in the door, can be intimidating and we want you to know that we aren't that scary really and we value all members regardless of their sexuality. Even if you're straight or questioning your sexuality you can come along and meet some like-minded individuals. Perhaps you will make long-lasting friendships that stay with you throughout your time at Stirling. Or maybe you'll just make some new drinking buddies. So far no one has run screaming from the room. Our meetings are usually held on Tuesday in room Long Bar in the Robins at 8pm, but we often have events in Stirling such as pub crawls and bowling trips, as well as trips to Glasgow and Edinburgh. If you would like to find out more about the society or if you'd like to meet up before a meeting so you know someone there already feel free to email me on rhh00002@stir.ac.uk or susa-lgbt@stir.ac.uk. If you have any problems/issues/questions, need support or simply need someone to lend you a friendly ear, then contact me or Mark the LGBT Officer. He runs relevant LGBT campaigns, represents LGBT students within SUSA and offers support to any self-defining LGBT student regardless of whether they are a member of the society. He holds a weekly office hour every Friday at 12pm till 1pm if you would like to talk to him in confidence, or he can be found at the weekly meetings if you just want to shout at him in public. I hope to see you soon. |
